The OLA Annual Meeting & Legislative Reception took place on March 13, 2012 at the Capital Club of Columbus. Following cocktails and socializing, the members assembled in the Bistro Room for a “State of the Association” presented by 2011 President Kelly McGivern. President McGivern thanked the members for showing their support for the initiatives of the association through their participation in several successful programs, such as the Certification and Mentorship projects. Additionally, she noted that the membership has grown significantly–now reaching well over 300 members.
Victor Hipsley and Tony Brigano then shared their experience as mentor/mentee over the past year. Both found the program beneficial on several levels and they encouraged members to participate in 2012.
Following approval of the 2012 budget, as reported by 2011 Secretary-Treasurer Mike Morrison, President McGivern presented the 2011 President’s Award to Rob Eshenbaugh. Mr. Eshenbaugh received this recognition for his tireless efforts to bring both the Certification Program and the Mentorship Program to fruition during the past year.
Past President and Chair of the Nominating Committee, Bill Byers, presented the slate of officers nominated for the 2012 Board of Trustees. The membership voted unanimously to approve the Nominating Committee’s recommendation, thereby installing the following members to the 2012 Board:
Cheryl Subler, President
Kelly McGivern, Past President
Lora Miller, President-elect
Mike Morrison, Vice President
Kurt Leib, Secretary-Treasurer
Mike Carroll, At-Large Member
Jeff DeLeone, At-Large Member
Rob Eshenbaugh, At-Large Member
2012 President Cheryl Subler addressed the membership at this time. She shared her vision for the coming year, noting in particular her desire to increase networking opportunities for members. New members, in particular, will be provided with additional resources to spotlight the value of their membership.
Following the meeting, members retreated to the President’s Dining Room for a reception honoring the 129th General Assembly. Legislators and aides, as well as members, were quick to express their appreciation for the opportunity provided each year by this event.
2012 Membership Directories were provided to members at the meeting and to the members of the General Assembly, as well as both caucuses, later that week.
