Barbara Benton Earns National Honor for Leadership

OLA Past President Barbara Benton receives top honor

The American Society of Association Executives on June 27 named Barbara Benton, CAE, vice president of government relations at The Ohio Society of CPAs, recipient of its Professional Performance Award.

She is the 45th recipient of ASAE’s Professional Performance Award. It recognizes invaluable contributions made by association executives who are at the top level in their organizations but are not CEOs.

Benton has worked at OSCPA since 1987. Since then she has been a leader of the Society’s government relations efforts, encouraging legislation that fosters a healthy business environment in Ohio while promoting and protecting the key role CPAs play as trusted business advisors.

The award is well deserved, said OSCPA President and CEO Scott Wiley, CAE.

“This is national recognition of something we’ve known here for a long time: that Barb is a terrific pro who has done great work for accounting and association worlds while making those around her better,” Wiley said.

Benton has been an active ASAE volunteer since 2004, serving as vice-chair (2007-2008), and chair (2008-2009) of the Government Relations Section Council and has been an active member of the Public Policy Committee, Power of A Committee, and the ASAE Political Action Committee.

The award will be presented at the 2019 ASAE Annual Meeting & Exposition, which will be held Aug. 10-13, in Columbus. Learn more.
